Preparing for Your Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row

Network Setup Instructions

As you prepare for your Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row, be sure your WiFi network is set up to support it. Here’s everything you need to know and do to ensure a successful setup and seamless experience for your guests.

Network Requirements

Peloton Bike and Bike+
The Peloton Bike and Bike+ will work on a wireless connection, but a wired connection is recommended. If using a wireless connection, place the Bike or Bike+ as close as possible to a WiFi access point. The touchscreen supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies over WiFi. Where proximity allows, we recommend utilizing the less-congested 5Ghz WiFi band. For wired connections, Bike+ will require the use of a USB-C to Ethernet Adapter (not included).

Peloton Row
The Peloton Row works on a wireless connection. We recommend placing the Row as close as possible to a WiFi access point. The touchscreen supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies over WiFi. Where proximity allows, we recommend utilizing the less-congested 5Ghz WiFi band.

Bandwidth

The Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Row communicate with multiple cloud services and use real-time video. To ensure functionality for all services, please ensure that the prescribed amount of bandwidth is reserved for each Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Row in the network.

Peloton Bike – The Bike requires at least 5Mbit/s downstream bandwidth per Bike. To achieve the best user experience, we recommend 10Mbit/s per Bike. Please ensure that the required bandwidth is always available for each Peloton Bike. Without it, real-time services may not function correctly. QoS or other bandwidth management is recommended.

Peloton Bike+ - The Peloton Bike+ works with 2.4GHz & 5GHz WiFi running on WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. Peloton recommends a 100 Mbps download speed to use the Peloton Bike (USB-C to Ethernet Adapter only).

Peloton Row – The Row works with 2.4GHz & 5GHz WiFi running on WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and will not support “hidden” WiFi networks. Peloton recommends a 100 Mbps download speed to use the Peloton Row.

Internet Access

  • Make sure your network does not enforce a captive portal policy when connecting to the internet.
  • Disable all URL filtering for the Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row, as it may interfere with Cloud Services being used by the Bike, Bike+, or Row.
  • Ensure that no proxy is being used to handle Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row internet connections. Proxies can degrade real-time video performance.
  • The Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Row are dynamic platforms and integrate with many cloud and social networking services. Make sure all outbound TCP and UDP ports from the touchscreen to the internet are open in the firewall. No inbound ports from the internet to the Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row need to be open.

IP Address Assignment

A Static DHCP entry for each Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Row is recommended. Static DHCP entry will ensure that each Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row will keep its IP address even if it is moved, and will prevent IP address overlaps. It also provides centralized management of Peloton equipment addresses in case any one needs to be changed. If static DHCP is not available, use a static IP address. The Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row will work with plain DHCP, but this is not recommended, as there is no control over which address gets assigned to which Bike, Bike+, or Row. No inbound ports from the Internet to the Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row need to be open.

Location

You may want to relocate the Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row periodically. If and when you do, make sure that you continue to adhere to all of the above requirements.

Whitelisting Instructions

In many hotels where a guest network is used to connect to the Internet, it is required that a user authenticate via a splash page to agree to terms and connect to the Internet. The Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Row do not have the functionality to display a splash page on the user interface. As such it is recommended that the hotel’s IT or network administrator whitelist the Peloton’s MAC address to allow connectivity to the Internet.

Follow these steps to find the Peloton’s MAC address:

  1. Tap on “Settings” at the top right corner of the Bike, Bike+, or Row monitor
  2. In the “Device Settings” page, select “About tablet”
  3. In the About Tablet menu, select “Status”
  4. In this Status menu you will be given a WiFi MAC address and a Ethernet MAC address. Please use the MAC address that corresponds to the connection method you will be using.
  5. Once you have located the MAC address on the screen, please provide this to your IT team or network integrator to complete the process.

NOTE: If you are using your Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Row on advanced network that requires firewall permissions, you will need to add the following addresses to your whitelist:
